Yep, you helped and I thank you for that. I did not know there was a headlamp on the camera. Things are better and I no longer have to sit there like a dumb arse trying to figure out where the hell is that light coming from.

With Iray, I just manually turn the lights off and on. I tried using canvasses once, but didn't like some of the limitations. Not sure if they have updated it.

This was great reading as are all your tutorials.Do you have a tutorial that deals with "How to" actually render the different light layers? Are they just multiple renders with lights on or off each time or do you use the canvasses feature?
Only using Iray here btw.
TIA. :)

Thank you for all your tutorials. Lighting was my downfall and you have helped. I am working on making outfits in marvelous designer off of real clothes I have made. Is there any way I can contribute money to you for your tutorials? I have a question but prefer to ask by email. Thank you Damian

Really like your posts, this and others, and was hoping you could give me some advice.

I'm still fairly new to 3d and I've struggling with a scene today and wondering whether to buy a course or keep youtubing?

My scene uses stonemasons contemporary living environment + hd genesis 3 model.

Bottom line, the lighting is really an issue ... I have quite a bit of experience with "real" studio lighting, but 3d is throwing me curve balls.

The major problems I ran into were:
1. When I add a Reality Mesh Light to the scene, my model seems to get overlit relative to the textures in Contemporary Living

2. If I try switching the Mesh light with a "Sun" light or a "Top Mesh Light" (which I back up a lot), suddenly renders take forever (seems that distant lights are killing performance but I'm not sure)

3. The lighter wooden floor in that environment seems to get nuked out relative to all the other furniture and I'm not sure how to adjust (glossiness?)

4. Finally I went back to working without contemporary living, just using mesh lights, primitives and the same hi def model "Chiyo" and I'm getting more promising results again. But of course they're a little less dramatic that using a cool environment :)

Hope this gives you and idea Is it worth buying a course? Is this bundle any good:
